Los Angeles Unified School District
Multiple School Expansions and New Construction Projects - California
For over 20 years, Overland, Pacific, & Cutler has been the major consulting firm for LAUSD’s extensive school site development programs. OPC has aided the District in its school site selection process by providing real estate know-how and experience in the Los Angeles urban core. OPC provides many “in-house” consultants that aid the district in oversight and management of the new and expansion school sites implementation. In round numbers, OPC has helped with 40 school sites, acquired approx. 1,000 properties and relocated approx. 4,000 households and businesses.

In late 2000, OPC completed cost studies for 15 proposed new school sites, each including numerous alternatives. The report included estimates of probable real estate costs, relocation expenses, and possible loss of business goodwill claims. Most of the individual studies had a turn-around time of under one week, requiring around the clock performance from OPC staff. Working with the school board and community representatives, OPC represented the District in public hearings and provided valuable support of the site selection process.

“OPC Staff worked diligently with district staff and the property owners and tenants to insure that the difficult process of uprooting people from their homes and relocating them to new locations was done not only according to the law, but also in a respectful and caring manner.”

OPC provided relocation plan preparation, complete relocation services and interim property management services for the Cherokee Point Elementary School, Herbert Ibarra Elementary School, Lincoln High School Expansion and Adams/Franklin Elementary School projects. The projects entailed the relocation of approximately 575 residences and businesses. Many of the households that moved were fortunate to become first-time home owners because of OPC’s relocation efforts.
