Mobile Homes to Affordable Housing - A Success Story!

Print

David Richman, Northern California Regional Director for OPC, will be speaking on a panel at the CRA/CAL-ALHFA Affordable Housing Conference in Sacramento, CA, held at the Doubletree Hotel, October 29-30.  Other speakers will include Karen Tiedemann with Goldfarb & Lipman and Ben Metcalf with BRIDGE Housing.

The “Success Story” concerns the 67 space Meadowbrook Mobile Home Park, located in Colma, CA, just south of San Francisco.  The project included both mobile homes and recreational vehicles.  Purchased by BRIDGE Housing for an affordable housing transit oriented project, the conversion of the park necessitated not only following State and Federal relocation laws but also the requirements set forth by the State of California for mobile home park closures.  However, meeting the requirements of the various laws paled against meeting the needs of the residents and the difficulty providing relocation assistance in the San Francisco Bay area.

The panel will discuss the affordable housing project and associated issues along with the relocation process, including noticing requirements, planning and implementation.  The success of the project, both from a budgetary and time-line prospective, up to the recent groundbreaking, will demonstrate how if planned properly, even the most difficult issues can be overcome to create a successful project.

The panel includes the developer's project manager, legal counsel and the OPC relocation team that contributed to the success of the project.
