OPC provided temporary relocation services for 177 households, the majority of which were project based Section 8 voucher holders. This was a sensitive project as the rehabilitation was protested in the early planning stages because residents thought the agency and developer were planning to go against their interests. Related Companies of California had to provide a comfort level that renovations were not going to result in displacement. This involved many meetings with residents.
OPC prepared the relocation plan, performed community outreach, developed a memorandum of understanding for the tenants outlining their housing options, conducted one-to-one interviews with the tenants, offered translation services for several languages (including Korean), and coordinated commercial moving services and temporary housing for the tenants. The relocations spanned a period of 5 to 7 months with 1 to 1.5 months allocated per move.
