OPC has been a trusted partner to Southern California Edison since 2000. We have managed aggressive acquisition programs which have allowed SCE to install in-house and 3rd party facilities and fiber optic cables in its service areas.
OPC has been retained by SCE as an on-call provider acquiring utility easements and crossing permits for various projects. Services have included preparing easements and offer packages, creating acquisition files, and negotiating acquisitions.
For the Tehachapi Renewable Transmission Project, OPC was hired to acquire land rights across approximately 100 parcels. The project was for a 200′ wide electrical transmission easement in the Antelope Valley. Energy developers planned new wind farms in an area of Kern County referred to as the “Tehachapi Wind Resource Area” to help meet the demand for more renewable power.
OPC was also contracted by SCE to provide acquisition for the Leatherneck Substation. On an aggressive schedule, OPC acquired 84 easements to support the project that involved an upgrade to the electrical infrastructure at the Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center. This helped provide sufficient power for increased party and training requirements. The new Leatherneck Substation was constructed aboard the Combat Center.
OPC has also secured upgraded easement rights and perfected prescriptive rights needed to allow SCE to lease fiber optic lines commercially. We have coordinated the preparation of legal descriptions, plat mats, and other similar documents. Utilizing interactive, problem solving approaches, OPC’s R/W team has developed schedule compression and cost saving strategies.
